Just a little warning if you’re sitting with your dick in your hand – most of this post doesn’t feature any naked babes, with or without toys. It’s a little writeup about the possibilities and limitions of broadband and dialup in relation to porn sites.

When it comes to designing and building websites, computer and Internet technology can be both a gift and a royal pain in the ass.
On one hand you can choose to design for fast broadband connections and computers that aren’t antique (ie. more than a couple of years old when we’re talking about computer technology ), but on the other hand there’s still a lot of people (so many in fact I’m always surprised when I see the numbers) that are still on dialup connections and older computers where low screen resolutions (typically 800×600 rather than the 1024×768 or even higher that more recent systems use) is one of the things to take into consideration in design.

On a simple level this blog is a good example of this. While I’ve built it for a 800×600 screen resolution (as the vast majority of websites still do), I have chosen not to be quite as considerate when it comes to connection speed.
While Babes and Toys should load in a few seconds for people on relatively fast broadband connections, I’m sure more than a few visitors on 56k dialup have chosen that waiting around a hundred seconds or more for the site to load wasn’t worth it (and they may have been right of course ).

Paysites like the ones I write about here at Babes and Toys face similar problems. While the design of the site itself can usually be made to acceptably fit a wide range of connection speeds, lots of pictures can slow things down considerably. And then there’s video.
I quite honestly can’t imagine what it must be like for someone on a dialup connection to try and download for instance the two hours of video I wrote about the other day – FTV Girls Jamie Lynn and Isabella together – hot doesn’t even begin to describe this.
It would litterally take days.

Sure, at a site like FTV Girls the videos are split into chunks (although the chunks have started to grow lately so many of them are now from 8 all the way up to 20 minutes rather than the 2 or 3 they were a year ago), but it must still be quite frustrating to practically have to settle with the photo content when there’s more than a hundred hours of video sitting in front of you on the entire site.

Assuming mostly Internet surfers on broadband connections would actually bother signing up for most sites heavy on video, then the options open up and the owner of the site can move on to the next step. Choosing the video quality.

One of the serious downsides I mentioned in my review of Fuckingmachines a while ago, was that the video quality was just barely acceptable. It could be watched in fullscreen but you would be hard pressed to call the quality good.
In the case of that site the content itself made up for the lack in quality and still made it a site I enjoyed tremendously, but as I’m on a relatively fast broadband line I would much have preferred to spend a few minutes extra downloading higher quality videos rather than settle with this serious compromise.

Most of the sites I regularly feature here at Babes and Toys have videos in very good quality – a few even embracing the future and offering videos that are near DVD quality (yeah, I know a lot of sites claim on their tours that their videos are DVD quality – exaggeration has been a commonly known tool in marketing for quite a few years afterall, but at least the quality is usually pretty good even if it’s not a match for what we’ve come to expect from DVDs).
The web’s largest adult video site for instance, VideosZ now offer all their new downloadable DVDs (the last couple of hundred) in both 500kbit, 1000kbit and 2000kbit.
The last two options are both better than what you get on probably 95% of all pornsites – and even the 500kbit option is more than suitable for fullscreen viewing.

The next obvious step would be something that matches the standards of HDTV, and while that’s probably a few years out in the future for most porn sites, a select few have already started (actually only one company I know of, with currently a couple of sites and more in production).

Both the new extreme toys and masturbation site Snatches and home site of the adorable Brooke Skye are pushing the limits when it comes to online video quality.
Crystal clear videos are available in the high resolution formats 480p (640×480) and 720p (1280×720) – the latter matching one of the real HDTV standards. They even plan to eventually release videos in the ultra high 1080p format as well – a 1920×1080 resolution, which you obviously need a HDTV or a computer monitor with a very high resolution to take full advantage of.
Of course both sites take into consideration that far from anyone is on 2-10 Mbit broadband connections just yet, so lower qualities are available as well.

Working 12 hours a day is… well, hard work. After a few busy weeks a little while back I thought my schedule had opened up a bit, but even though I’ve begun taking a bit more time to get out and enjoy the fresh air (I hear that’s supposed to be healthy) and tentatively made my way to the gym again after several months off, I still find myself buried in a number of web design and other online tasks.

The lesbian video/photo update with FTV Girls Jamie and Isabella has landed – just a few hours ago actually.

The first email I received today contained a very nice and interesting surprise. While my focus here at Babes and Toys has been pretty narrowly pointed at relatively few sites the last couple of weeks, the people at Fuckingmachines haven’t wasted any time and have added four or five new long hardcore video episodes since the last time I wrote about them.

If you read my review of Fuckingmachines from August 2 you should know very well what to expect from this very unique site.

I have been spending quite a few hours the last three days going through many of the 270+ videos in the archives of the very unique toys/insertions site Fuckingmachines, and this has resulted in an extensive review that I just put the final touches on.

The score is the lowest I have given so far – “only” a total of 86/100, but that won’t stop me from wholeheartedly recommeding Fuckingmachines as the excellent site that it is.

I’ve been looking forward to seeing the member section of the rather (extremely is probably more like it) unique masturbation/toy site Fuckingmachines.

Looking for a bit of hardcore entertainment and also for a new site to do a full review of, I signed up at Fuckingmachines last night, not knowing quite what to expect from a site that has replaced lesbian lovers with strapons for a number of alien looking and often rather brutal machines with dildos strapped to the end of their mechanical arms.

Well, I went through some of their videos (fortunately of much better quality than the rather crappy low resolution sample video clips I’ve shown you here before – but that was expected of course) and so far I can put three words on what I’ve seen. Hot, hot, hot .
